Solheim Cup: Dame Laura Davies plays down inexperience on USA team

Dame Laura Davies is convinced when they take on among the very inexperienced USA teams in Solheim Cup 24, Europe will avoid complacency.
Juli Inkster’s bid to lead her team to a third success has been hit by preparation that was disrupted, with Stacy Lewis being forced to pull out due to a back injury.
Angel Yin has been not able to practice completely as her set of clubs late arrived at Gleneagles, however Davies insists the team will be focused on their own games instead of being distracted by events in the opposition team area.
“It has certainly been an eventful start to Solheim Cup week,” Davies told Sky Sports. “Ordinarily on a Monday and Tuesday it’s all about getting a sense of the place, wanting to relax as much as possible, and getting in some fantastic practice.
“However, with missing clubs such as Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Angel Yin, and the USA being forced to make a late change to the team, there has been much more going on. As she is a large part of the group stacy Lewis needing to pull out is a pity for the Americans.
“But, Ally McDonald has played great this season also, if anything else, she could actually be enjoying a bit better than Stacy. Ally may be another newcomer, but she will be all set for the battle and won’t shy away from it. It will rob Juli Inkster of an experienced participant, so her expertise can be utilised by them in the team room, but Stacy is staying with the team.
“Team USA currently have six rookies in their line-up, and only three have played with a Solheim Cup out the united states, but we certainly won’t be getting complacent when we examine the inexperience within their own team. Juli has a very good team with players which are firmly established over the LPGA Tour, and it’s a tough qualifying procedure in which you have to play great, consistent golf over the very best part of 2 years.”
Davies, who’s enjoying her adventure of considers the 2 teams are equally matched and has called a close contest, although europe remain 13/8 outsiders using Sky Bet before this edition of this championship.
“The bookies now have us as the outsiders together using the Americans odds on to win, but with everything I have observed from our team on and off the course, it’s even money in my novel,” added Davies, that remains the greatest points scorer in the competition’s history with 25 points out of her 12 appearances – another record.
“Obviously we are hoping to get a huge win, however I have a feeling it’s going to be quite near when it comes to the crunch on Sunday afternoon. Take that and we need to feed the atmosphere and the home support.
“There will certainly be a great feeling around the first tee, where our gamers will truly feel the burden of anticipation while the US team could feel a little intimidated. But I’d rather be on the home team. Four of Europe’s five Solheim Cup wins have been at home, and a lot of this success is down to our”13th participant” beyond the ropes.
“Experienced or not, every single participant will truly feel the nerves on that first tee. It was something I endured from, and I’ll admit that if I was enjoying foursomes, I had been perfectly happy for my spouse to hit the first tee shot!”
